The Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system is the United States’ only operationally deployed missile defense program capable of defending the entire U.S. homeland (including Alaska and Hawaii) against long-range ballistic missile attacks. GMD is designed to detect, intercept and destroy long-range ballistic missiles during their midcourse phase of flight using the Ground Based Interceptor (GBI), a silo-launched, three-stage rocket consisting of a solid fueled multi-stage boost vehicle and Exo-atmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV).

Our titanium-honeycomb shroud is extremely lightweight, while strong enough to withstand intense force and heat as the vehicle penetrates the atmosphere. It then breaks away to allow the EKV to destroy the threat.

F-117 Nighthawk Exhaust - Lockheed Martin Skunkworks

The F-117 Nighthawk is a retired single-seat twin-engine stealth attack aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin’s Skunkworks division. It is the first stealth aircraft ever fielded. It’s unique angular design is part of what makes the F-117 so stealthy. ASTECH was contracted by Skunkworks to construct the exhaust of this aircraft which served in the United States Air Force from 1983-2008.

ASTECH’s unique exhaust is another factor that increases the stealth capabilities of the Nighthawk. It features acoustic attenuation, making the aircraft quieter, and its design helps dissipate hot gasses, significantly lowering the aircraft’s heat signature.

Ticonderoga-Class Cruiser Exhaust Uptakes - Hutington Ingalls

The Ticonderoga class of guided-missile cruisers is a class of warships of the United States Navy. These cruisers are multi-role warships, one of these being it’s ability to travel extremely fast across the open ocean to deploy a large fighting force anywhere in the world. These ships must be extremely lightweight so they can carry as many men, ammunition, other vehicles and countless other equipment as they can.

Our turbine exhaust uptakes, made of titanium, help these cruiser’s accomplish this goal by reducing the overall weight of the ship so it can complete its mission.
